Transition Training Brief Itinerary:

The Transition skills session includes coaching and practical elements, all of which are delivered in one location. In advance of your session we’ll send you a detailed joining instructions document which will set out where you need to be and when, and what kit you need to bring with you. If you don’t have all the kit listed then dont worry, you’ll still be able to take part.

We begin the day with an introduction session, so you know who your coaches are, and a brief outline of what to expect from the day. There will be an opportunity here to ask any questions you have in advance and to highlight anything specific that you want to ensure is covered during the day.

We’ll have a lifelike transition area set up on the day, and we’ll start by showing you round the transition area, talking you through all the various elements, and discussing what might be different at various event types.

Next we’ll talk you through the kit you’ll need to take into transition, how best to pack it (including what types of bags are allowed into transition), and the sort of checks you can expect from the officials when you enter on race day. We’ll walk you through how to rack your bike and lay your kit out, and show you some techniques to help remember where your position is so that you don’t get lost on race day!

The main practical element of the session is a full practice run of transition, firstly as a walk through so you get a feel for the process, and then at race pace. Provided the weather is good well have some water setup to make sure we can properly simulate what its like to transition out of a pool or lake and the associated issues with wet kit. There will be time for a few practice runs through transition so you can take the opportunity to try different kit and techniques to see what works best for you on race day. You’d be surprised how difficult it can be to put a dry t-short on a wet body under pressure from the clock!

Our day will end at about 12:30 with some well-earned tea & biscuits, a chance to recap what we’ve covered and to answer any final questions you might have.
