What makes us different is a genuine focus on beginners
There are lots of coaches out there, and lots of coaching companies. Talk to most of the coaches behind them and they’ll tell you the same thing, the beginners bring the volume of work, and help the pay the bills, but what they really enjoy is working with elite athletes or serious age groupers.
Where we’re different is that we have a genuine focus on beginners, and we have a real passion for helping them. Everything we do in our My First Triathlon products is done with the beginner in mind, from how training plans are structured to advice on gear and equipment.
We know that Triathlon can seem a daunting sport to get into….
Every one of us here at MyFirstTriathlon is a triathlete. We all remember our first race and we are all keenly aware how difficult it can be for newcomers to get involved in this wonderful sport.
Triathlon is as much a mental game as a physical one and we want to help you get to the start feeling feeling calm, comfortable and ready for the challenge ahead. This means building your confidence in each discipline, and making you feel like you belong on the start line.
Our approach to coaching is supportive. Its not about shouting, its not about criticism, its about understanding and working collaboratively to get the best out of you. Its OK if you don’t finish a workout, all we’ll be interested in is why, and what we can do to help you manage the next one.
We will help you build your knowledge of triathlon, making sure you feel part of the wonderful, encouraging, supportive world of triathlon that is sometimes difficult to see from outside. We’ll also introduce you to other newbies taking the same journey as you, and encourage you to share thoughts, experiences and what you’ve learned.
But why would a beginner need a bespoke training plan?
As we mention above, its not just about the coaching side of things however, its an important aspect.
“I remember preparing for my first race. I had no idea how to train, what equipment I would need, how to prepare and what to expect on race day. My training was basically me riding my bike a couple of times a week, swimming non-stop in the local pool for as long as I could once or twice a week and running to exhaustion a couple of times a week. It got me there, but looking back I cant quite believe it did, and I wonder at how inefficient my training was. Even as an absolute beginner, training efficiently minimises stress on the body (and thus reduces the chance of injury) whilst building fitness and strength in the right areas.”
